Hunting (pest) squirrels. Is i legal to hunt squirrels that are in our yard that get into the house?

we've had quite a pest problem since a tree grew next to our house.(on neighbor's property) it has brought a lot of squirrels into this house. Now there at there worst. They're making a lot of noise and probably destroying the house from the inside. Dropping nuts down vents and leaving feces all over. For the most part, they haven't come inside the house except from falling out of bathroom exhaust fans. Can i hunt them with a pellet gun or trap them? Is this legal in the state of Ohio? does anyone know what else i can do? thanksHunting (pest) squirrels. Is i legal to hunt squirrels that are in our yard that get into the house?
I'm in a different state (Texas) but when I contacted our local Structural Pest Control Board to find out what is actually legal to get rid of pest squirrels they sent me to Parks and Wildlife who emailed me a long email explaining that there is only 2 legal ways to kill squirrels since they are a game animal. The first is through legal hunting with firearms where local laws must apply (season..limits..where legal to use a fire arm)

The second way is if you are in a city you must contact the mayors office...if out of a township contact an office of the local Justice of the Peace, in which those offices contact the local game warden who will then come determine if the squirrel is a problem that needs to be put down.

The unofficial stance with every one I have talked to in person ranging from city police to game warden is that there will fall out on trapping and putting down problem squirrels on your own unless there is a complaint made by one of your neighbors.

For what it's worth my pellet gun will drop a squirrel instantly with one shot as far as 100 feet away.

My personal suggestion would be to trap with the HavaHart 1040 trap and then locate to a large garbage can filled with water.Hunting (pest) squirrels. Is i legal to hunt squirrels that are in our yard that get into the house?
Ohio regards squirrels as game and the hunting season is from Sept 1 to Jan 31.

Pest control might be your best answer, you can't legally discharge a firearm including a pellet gun in an urban area. If you should trap them indoors :o) nobody but you knows what happens after that.
get a good b-b gun and shoot them in the head...no one will be the wiser...hunt them in the attic , thats probably where they are coming in...then block all holes leading into the house...
Marcus seems to have the best answer here about the hunting season..I am in Florida now but from The Central Texas area...There you can hunt squirrels all year for it is an open season on squirrel...I was raised we ate many a squirrel and could hunt them all year long, but Marcus has seemed to find out your local laws..Now as mentioned, there are laws about discharging firearms in the city limits, and in some states this does apply to air rifles as well...But as far as this HK guy being all insultive..if you click the ';report abuse'; button next to his name..This will delete his answer..it takes two complaints to do so..I have already done so...People are not allowed to openly insult people here, nor use any discriminitive remarks like where you are from or your upbringing lifestyle..as well as being insultive to other members, we are allowed to debate and express our opinion on how we think one or the others answers are incorrect, but not just totally ';SLAM'; someone against the wall like that...Someone please click the report abuse button and get this insultive persons answer off of here..Children read these posts as well..
I would have to say that you need to check with your local game and fishing department if you can ';hunt'; squirrels.

It also depends if you live in the city limits or outside the city limits.

You need to check that.

You can try trapping them and letting them go miles and miles away, but I do believe that they will find their way home.

You need to close off any area's in which they are getting into. Once that is closed off, they can't get back in.

Use plenty of moth balls around your house, in the attic, under the house if you have a crawl space. Moth balls WILL work.

Also go to google and type in:

Ohio squirrel hunting

See what comes up.

If you plan on shooting them, you better make sure there are no family's near by that can get hurt. I would not recommend that.
