I am about to start hunting squirrels and want to keep their tails.?

I already know how to preserve it but i want to know how to get bugs off of them and keep them offI am about to start hunting squirrels and want to keep their tails.?
I use Borax to preserve tails, and wings sometimes too, it works on feet and small heads as well. Just completely cover the tail in borax for 2 weeks, DO NOT uncover and take a peek, just leave it alone for 2 weeks, then you're set.I am about to start hunting squirrels and want to keep their tails.?
Pull the bone out as described by our friend from the UK and salt them in a dry place for a few days.

I have also reported all the non-answers and name-callers. There's no need for that kind of thing.
Boy, what a bunch of hooey!!! To all of the people who negged on this poor guy, GET A LIFE! The meat which feeds OUR families comes from cattle (in most cases.) Cattle break their legs in squirrel holes. The local ranches in my area pay me to exterminate the little critters so that the cattle can be fattened up to feed us! If you're surrounded by pavement, metal and glass, then don't pass judgement on others that enjoy or even need to hunt!
keep them covered in salt until they are completely preserved, the bugs should then show no interest.
to do this you should clean it first then put a protective covering on them that keeps the bugs away heres a url for the name of it
So im taking it you want advice on taking the tail off then.

As you can imagin the tail is conected to the body by bone.

where it joins the body, score around the tail with a sharp knife till it exposes the bone.

Then you want 2 sticks 7'; long and thick enough not to brake under a little presur.

Place a stick ether side of the tail (jaming tail between)

with one hand apply presuer to both sticks and with the other take hold of the body , now pull.

This method will take the tail away from the bone.

jam tail between %26amp; pull
aww...thats really sad =[[.
Get as much bone out as you can turning them partially inside out . Freeze them in a Ziploc bag overnite and that will kill any bugs. You already know to salt them with table salt I assume. After you let them thaw out , let them air dry and then store them in another clean ziploc bag.No worries mate.......
I 2nd the borax idea, I also reported all the idiots, too bad i missed the rush, seems a lot were removed before i got here, oh well.
Lets have an open season on you and see how you'd like it!

If you like killing things so much then join the army and cuddle up with Mr Bush.
just spray it with bug relent and try to keep it away from them
