Is this gun to big to squirrel hunt?

Marlin model 925 22Mag Bolt Action. Is this gun to big to squirrel hunt?
no you should be okIs this gun to big to squirrel hunt?
Bound's hubby here:

Actually, I think the round that you selected is too big. Not so much the bullet diameter, but the power behind it. A .22LR is dangerous to well over a mile, the .22Mag (with more power) is dangerous to a greater distance. No matter how good a shot you may be, visualize that you miss the head shot on a squirrel, the bullet is going to go somewhere. Even with a head shot, there is no guarantee that the bullet will break up and it will still have to go some place. I would strongly suggest that you stick to a .22LR for your squirrel hunting.

Good luck.
A 22mag will tear a squirrel up pretty good if you're using soft points or especially hollowpoints. Even with a headshot you might bruise the shoulders too much to eat.

Fmj should be ok if legal to hunt with though.

I do like my 17hmr squirrel hunting in the late fall and winter because shots could go father than 50-60 yards which I think is about the limit of a 22lr. A 22mag will really shine past 50 yards this time of year (be loud though).

Is it too big? Sort of, yes, but not unreasonable.
a 22 mag is cool for long distant shots. I use to use a 410 shotgun a lot. Try one of those. You have to be a lot closer which gives hunting squirrels a little more of a challenge. ';Be very quite! I'm hunting Squirrels';
If you keep to head shots, you won't have any problems at all. The mag is a pretty fast round and if you take body shots, the round will mess up a lot of good meat. Just adds to the challenge.
No ---- That's a .22...... Its perfectly sized for squirrel........

Look here for more .22 rifle and hunting info....

Nope. .22 Mag ammo costs more than .22 LR, but the actual bullet is the same size. You'll have a bit more reach with the mags. Marlins are excellent .22s, too.
You can as long as you make all Head Shots, and NO shots to the body.* A 22 long Rifle using hollow points is a much better choice all around.*
Gun too big? I didn't get the question. jk

Nah, 22 bullets should be just fine. That is what I used when I hunted squirrels.
a word of advise to you is use wadcutters or the like IE no hollow points the squrill i shot with cci 22 hollows was shot in half held together by its spine
nope, just make sure when you shoot at the squirrel that it is on the ground cause a 22mag bullet will travel a long way
It would work. You're not going to get much meat unless you use headshots, but it would work.
Nope
