Is This A Good Rifle To Squirrel Hunt?

Someone says it has 600 fps but is it good?Is This A Good Rifle To Squirrel Hunt?
I see the anti-airgun crowd is out in force on this question... However to be fair they do raise a valid point. You should make sure that hunting with air-rifles is legal in your state/province/shire since game laws do vary. That said, I wish some of the anti-airgun idiots would realize that hunting with air-rifles is legal in a great many English speaking areas of the world and keep their comments about how its illegal everywhere because its illegal where they live to themselves.

To answer your question, to kill a squirrel with a .177 pellet rifle (using an 8 grain pellet), you need a minimum impact velocity of 415 fps. The rifle you linked to should be able to deliver that impact velocity out to around 20 yards. So yes, that gun will kill a squirrel. However its far from ideal since you'd need perfect shot placement and you don't have much margin for error at realistic hunting ranges. You would be better off with a more powerful air-rifle.

As far as small-game, hunting air-rifles go, ideally you would buy a more powerful model for hunting. Most of the spring piston guns designed for hunting can drive the same 8 grain .177 pellet that the gun you asked about uses at 1000+ fps or a 14 grain .22 pellet at 800+ fps. Some of the pre-charged pneumatic rifles can equal or exceed those velocities with .177 and .22 caliber pellets. Additionally if you really want plenty of power there are pre-charged pneumatics out there which drive pellets that are .25, .308, 9mm or larger at 500-700+ fps. In general a .22 pellet rifle with a muzzle velocity of 800+ fps is more than adequate for small game out to 30-40 yards so you should look at one of those instead of the air-rifle you linked to.Is This A Good Rifle To Squirrel Hunt?
Yes, it would be possible, ';IF'; your rifle will shoot pellets such as the Beeman Laser(6.5gr) at 600fps(MV)

600fps - 6.5gr pellet = 5.2fpe

You could hunt a squirrel at close range. It takes 3.0fpe at impact, with a perfect head shot to kill a squirrel.

IMO, for $290 you could do a heck of a lot better.

For that kind of $$ you could get a great small game pellet rifle.

And have money left over!

The Benjamin 397 also makes a very nice small game rifle

A Crosman ';64'; peep sight %26amp; the 397 make a great combo.
If your gun can't make a clean 1 shot kill on a squirrel, a distance of 100 feet or more, it is worthless as a weapon to hunt with.

in Florida, it is NOT leagle to hunt game animals, with a pellet or BB gun
600fps is a bird gun.Won't penetrate fur.1000fps with good optics like 8x and premium pellets is a skull popper.(the cx will work for close work!)
Get a .22 Caliber.

I have one and I hunt squirrels It does not blow them apart unlike other rifles.
go with a .22lr or a .410 shotgun.
I dont care what gun you have and dont listen to them people below me. 600 fps is plenty for a squirel.
If you're looking to merely wound them, yes. Get a .22.
bro go with a 22 this gun probably wouldn't get the job done
