Do you need a hunting license to kill squirrels in your own backyard?

If i kill them with an air rifleDo you need a hunting license to kill squirrels in your own backyard?
In many states you do. In Arkansas you do.Do you need a hunting license to kill squirrels in your own backyard?
In California there is no landowner exemption, so you need a hunting license to shoot any mammal (or other game animals). That includes squirrels.(1) That said, if you have a hunting license, its legal to use an air-rifle to take small game in California.(2) As for shooting squirrels in season... Tree squirrel season opens Oct. 2nd. Ground squirrels aren't a game animal and (I believe) may be shot year round.
First of all, if your killing with an air rifle, I don't think you need any permits. And, you don't need a license if nobody finds out, because an air rifle has minimal noise; nobody would suspect. I've killed a few things with air rifles if I don't feel like going hunting. Also, I hope you eat them if you kill them.
In some states the are seasons for squirrel hunting, so that would mean you would be ';Poaching out of season';. Check with your Fish %26amp; Game/Wild life Department. another place to check is down at the Wal-Mart in the sporting goods department. Most of them have a hunting season board above the cash register there. It'll list Open/Closed seasons and bag limits.
Depends where you live......but, if you eat them and they are destroying your trees and bird feeder......keep it quiet.

Those little buggers steal all my walnuts from the tree.....or they used too.....hehe....tasty....well fed.....yum...
As long as you don't get caught - you never need a lic.
Check local regs.
