What is the best high powered air rifle for squirrel hunting that is under $400 bucks and shoots over 1250fps?

I would buy a .22 rifle but i live inside city limits so I cant legally use one. Just need a good air rifle to shoot squirrels. I was looking at the Gamo Varmint Hunter Air Rifle it is not that expensive and looks fairly well.

Could anybody tell me if the stock is that cheap plastic or is it solid good quality plastic. Give me what you think about this rifle.

Does anyone know of any other pellet rifles that are good and have a wooden or synthetic a wooden stock and under 400$ bucksWhat is the best high powered air rifle for squirrel hunting that is under $400 bucks and shoots over 1250fps?
The Gamo Varmint Hunter does not have a ';cheap'; plastic stock. It's a very nice synthetic stock.

%26gt;the FPS with this rifle is using PBA, which inflates the FPS. PBA is NOT a good hunting pellet.

They even say that it's FPS is 1200 with PBA and 1000 with light weight lead pellets. I doubt you will get 900fps with ';normal'; weight, lead hunting pellets such as RWS Superpoint(8.2gr).

Besides, pellets tend to become unstable and inaccurate when they break the sound barrier(347ms at sea level, approx 1130fps)

IMO, accuracy is a much-much bigger factor than FPS so long as the air rifle is reasonable powerful. Your target when hunting small game with an air rifle is 1 to 1 1/2 inches(head). I would rather have an 850fps air rifle that will shoot sub 1/2in groups at 40yds that one that shoots 1200fps and 3in groups.

It's like I said before, the RWS 350 for $305 from Midwayusa is the best deal I know of. This rifle in .22 caliber makes a great small game hunter.

You can check and see what others have to say about these rifles.

If you have a Bass Pro Shop in your area, they carry Gamo %26amp; RWS, among others. I don't know about you, but I have to like the feel of a rifle.

Later: %26lt;added%26gt; The RWS 460 Magnum has been a huge disappointment, this rifle has NOT performed anywhere near what RWS claimed it would. Why do you think the price has dropped like a rock. They were selling for almost $700, the anticipation(mine included) was huge for this rifle. After the first few were run through their paces it was found they were wimps and not the projected ';Super'; magnum. Read the reviews on Network54, you will see. The RWS 350 is the much better rifle for less money. What is the best high powered air rifle for squirrel hunting that is under $400 bucks and shoots over 1250fps?
well kid i think its crazy paying that much for a air rifle u could shoot a .22 and pay the fines for tht lol but i do like the new bengamin super streak its only about 300 but trust me guns over 1200 fps are loud! realy loud! id suggest 1000fps .22 cal air rifle its subsonic and keep the sound down
The law applies to shooting squirrels inside of city limits no matter what type of gun you use. It is ilegal to hunt them inside the city limits im sure...with that said go with a gamo but i sure wouldnt pay no 400 dollar for a air rifle I could buy three .22s with scopes AND a hunting license (hint hint) for that price .
Beeman make some powerful air rifles for under $400. Don't listen to these dummmys talking about how that is insane to spend that much on a air rifle. Your average 9mm pistol shoots at about 1250FPS and is no where near as accurate as a descent spring pistion rifle. Any way the ones that are over 1000 usually are not air rifles anyway they use a spring piston that cycles when you break the barrell to reload. The gamo model you are referring to is a very nice gun. I know there is one model that comes with a scope, laser and a flashlight mounted a weaver tactical rail. You can't just put any scope on these types of rifles. They have to be made for Spring Action rifles or you will destroy the scope. For shooting squirell that will be fine. Whether you are eating them or not is totally irrellevent. I have a bird feeder that I leave on my workbench in my barn and I hang out on the deck in the prone about 30 yds away and wait for the little trespassers to come and steal my bird food. That is why air rifles are good for PEST CONTROL.
try an RWS 450 magnum. sick gun.http://www.pyramydair.com/p/rws-460-magnum-air-rifle.shtml

rws model 45
Gamo's are nice rifles. I understand the .22 thing now. But i would never in my life spend any more than 150 to 200 dollars on a air rifle.. thats insane. Are you gonna eat the squirrels. And I would get a Synthetic personaly because of the weathering thing. And it doesnt dent and is easily replaced and cheaper than wood. Gamo's are not bad at all. I would def. go with that.
