Normally squirrel season is in the fall. The best time is at day break and evening because they are feeding. Find a area with nut trees and sit against a tree and be very quiet with out any movement. Just keep watching in the trees and on the ground and they will start moving around. Wait until they get close enough for a shot because if you move towards them they will see you and take off. If you don't see any in a half hour or so move to a different location.
There is a squirrel caller that is located at stores like Gander Mountain and perhaps Academy. It's a thin metal circle with a whole in the middle. That should help. Squirrels are very easy to kill, you shouldn't have much problem unless you're not using anything with a trigger. Mornings are always best for animals. A place near humans is a start!
This is one of those subjects that you will be better served to use a search engine to get your information. There is just too much information on squirrel hunting to expect to get much of an education here. It's a very popular sport and one you can enjoy all your life.
use a call and use it when the sun is up and everything is clear wait about 2 hours after sunrise to start calling and dont over call just about a 5-10 sec call sequence then stop for reply and if none then do again but not too much move around after 3-5 calls that dont have a respond. first two months of small game openner is good but after they start hibernation and when a reply is heard or a squirel is herd walk twords it very slow and stealthy and look at the trees and try to find it then just get to a good range and shoot once shot run and chase it if it hasnt died but was hit dont try to be directly underneath it just at least 30 yards far from it chase til it stops at a tree were all it does is try to hide then quietly but quickly move around until you find it again and finish it
well, i go out when they are in season like now . and i use a .22 with scope no pellets from shotgun in/or to ruin meat. i go out just like you would if you were deer hunting in dusk and then at dawn sit and be on the look out you will see them
As you didn't say where you are I'll give you where I am. (CO season dates)

Aberts squirrel 15th Nov - 15th Jan

Fox squirrel 1st Oct- 1st March

Pine squirrel 1st Oct- 1st March

Wyoming or Richardson's Ground squirrel year round
well i believe most states have a season for squirrel and get a shotgun and blast away at some squirrel nests
