Tips on squirrel hunting?

This weekend I will be going squirrel hunting with my dad and cousins. I will be using either my .22 or 20 gauge. I have never gone hunting for them before just shooting the occasional one on our property. Also, how can you make a squirrel call homemade because I don't want to buy one? Thanks for the tips!Tips on squirrel hunting?
I have two tips about squirrel hunting:

1) Squirrels tend not to ';save'; events to long-term memory unless it's clearly a matter of life and death, so if they are mildly startled, you can just wait 15-20 minutes for them to forget about it. For a hunter, this means you don't have to stalk up to a stand, the way you would when deer hunting. Just walk right up to a spot with squirrel activity, have a seat, and wait for them to forget you are there. But once you take a shot or two, they'll probably scamper off for the rest of the day!

2) Most of the squirrel ';calls'; on the market seem to make sounds that mean ';Run away! Run away!'; That is NOT the message you want to send, so save your money. Instead, use the ';50-cent squirrel call';: rub the serated edges of two quarters against each other rhythmically several times, pause for several seconds, and repeat three or four times. This can be especially effective in a black walnut grove, because it mimics the sound of a squirrel's teeth on a walnut shell. The squirrels think somebody else is getting food, and that gets their attention.

Have a good and safe hunt!Tips on squirrel hunting?
My secret for attracting squirrels is to go out into the woods and act like a nut. :)

Seriously, go with the 20 gage, and you don't need a call. Just keep your eyes open, and when you spot a squirrel, have one of your hunting partners go around ot the other side of the tree. That way, when the squirrel scampers around the the other side of the tree to get away from one hunter, the other one can plug him. My brother and I used to hunt them that way all the time. Just make sure to keep the gun pointed up into the tree and not down at your partner.
use the 22 buy a cheep small engine (lawn mower) muffler it is hollow in the center strap on a piece of old garden hose too the rifle then attach the muffler to the hose just enough to adapt it to the barrel end. Forget the home made call all you need is something that will make an owl hoot it will scare them and they will call out to each other.soon as you spot one they will all show up shortly. when you shoot they will look around and, like, say, where did he go cause you just made a silencer and they will not hear the noise of the fire arm. Luck ,PS while looking for squirrel calls found this cool sit check it out some crazy storys on hunting.
either weapon will do fine. Shotgun might leave a few pellets under the flesh so be careful eating them. Try to get em out before you cook. Most important thing about squirrel hunting is being in some woods where they are, and then just waiting for em to come out. The only thing resembling a squirrel call I've ever seen is when my cousin used to clack a couple of small rocks together sounding like an aggravated squirrel chattering at something. It would make them poke their head out to take a look.
your not really going to need a call if your in the right place. look for a nut tree to hang around. use the 20 gauge. easier to hit, and not wound them that way.

i have a store bought call, and if you ask me it does no good.

and i would have no clue on how to make one that sounds right.

good luck,

good hunting,

and good eating!
I would think if the leaves are off the trees in your corner of the world it would be easy to spot the squirrels nest in the trees. It will look like a nest of leaves. A big nest, bigger than a birds nest. I hope you have a good time.
My tips are find game trails, some times you just have to sit there and wait. once i sat in the woods for 2 hours waiting then i saw a squirrel and popped him, then i stayed out till it got dark and got a raccoon
Ask if they have one you can buy at a outdoor store in your area! Or find one that is for sale test it out and see if you can make one similar!
Squirrel make a strange sound to me. If you are looking for a call I wouldn't know how to make one, so I suggest investing in one.
Hide in the bushes and make a noise like an acorn.
Never used a ';squirrel call'; in my life...

Stick with the 20 ga.
throw little stones like acorns dropping from the trees once in awhile
