i live in upstate NY and i need some tips on hunting big greys and red squirrels in a corn fields and there are a lot of hickory and oak trees and there are none in there i usually see them on the ground i wanna sneak up on them but i dont know howIm a rookie in squirrel hunting and i need tips to hunt them i?
sneaking up on squirrels is virtually impossible if you are in open woods or field. they are best hunted while sitting on the ground, against a tree, or on a stump and just waiting for them to come down (in the evening ) for food. early morning is ok but my luck has been evening. also, be still and quiet, like any other hunt, for the first 15 min to let the woods ';settle.'; the squirrels will not see you as a threat and make their way down the trees to look for food. just try walking around looking for nests and sit about 15 - 20 yds away and just wait. good luck and shoot straight !Im a rookie in squirrel hunting and i need tips to hunt them i?
red squirrels are illgal to hunt.

i got the biggest gray school i have ever seen this yera. I bait them and then i hunt them aggresivly. I use a .177 pellet gun that shoots 490 fps. Dont hit them in the head if you are using a pellet gun. Hit them in the chest or behind the front shoulder
If you're hunting with an airgun/pellet gun, don't do what M.P.M. said, don't aim for the lungs, aim for the head, ALWAYS, if you're hunting with a pellet gun, aim for the head.
use a 20 or 12 guage and i prefer to hunt with a dog
