Preferred Squirrel Hunting Caliber?

.22 LR, .17 HMR, or something else?

Is hollow point ammunition more humane, and will it leave anything left of the squirrel meat (i.e. not blow the poor little fellow apart)?Preferred Squirrel Hunting Caliber?
Why don't you use the belt fed 50 bmg you say you want to get?Preferred Squirrel Hunting Caliber?
i prefer the 22L.R. because cheap ammo. use hollow points if you want a squirrel is so small you can not tell the difference between hollow and not hollow point. And i can really say this because i shoot a 22 mag. with hollow points too it works fine for squirrels and i go home and get just as much meat off them as a 22lr. if you can make a headshot go for it but i often can not get a good headshot so i shoot them in the shoulder it works just as well.
.22LR, for head shots just use the most accurate load be it hp or solid. Anchoring body hits mean the shoulders and end up with bone and hair in a good portion of the meat no matter what so they aren't a good choice. A head shot is the most humane kill because it's instant they'll never even hear the shot.

I prefer it because can buy high quality .22 (except the very best match grade) for less then any .17hmr load. A bonus is that it is not as loud as a 17 from a rifle. Quiet enough that you aren't guaranteeing instant hearing damage every shot like with a 17.
i love my .17 hmr. you can't beat it for range and accuracy, but you must make head shots or you will blow them apart. then again, head shots are the only acceptable shots anyway.
.17 HMR. Makes squirrel hamburgers...
.22 LR for sure
.22LR is the best out there plus ammo is dirt cheap.
22 the ammo is dirt cheap
20 ga. Most of my shots are upward. Not safe to hunt squirrelt with a rifle.
.22 LR. I've used it for years.
go w/the 22...you won't need hollows
