Squirrel hunting help never have done it before?

how can i get started squirrel hunting what supplies do i need and before i do try it does squirrel taste good thanks and how can i locate them i live in oklahoma if that helps with spottingSquirrel hunting help never have done it before?
Yes, they taste yummy

All you need is a gun and shells.

20, 16, or 20 shotgun --- I like the modified chokes with highbrass 6's. I have preference to the 20 ga but you have to be pretty close (30-35 yards)

Or you can use a rimfire 22lr (22mag, 17hmr, and 17hmr tear them up pretty good). You can use hollow points or soilds, though I like the hollow points.

Other than that, you can get a game vest to hold shells / dead squirrels. A thin foam seat is good if you want to sit on the ground and wait for them rather than ';spot and stalk';. And of course a pocket knife / garden shears to cut the feet off.

They'll be around crop fields, creek bottoms, and in the hardwoods that have hickories, walnuts, and oaks. Fresh fruit trees, blackberries, etc are good locations too.

This time of year in OK they should be on walnuts or hickories if you can find them. I'd go in the cool mornings when there is no wind and look for tree branchs to swing.

As fall approaches, they will begin eating and collecting acorns. you can hunt them all day then when the leaves turn and it's 50-60 degrees out. They tend to be on the ground and you can hear them skampering towards you. Sitting and waiting is often a good tactic then.

EDIT

Two pennies work for a call. You can also get some spit in your mouth and make the same type of noise.

I find those two methods are good at getting a squirrel to stop long enough to shoot it (making the noise with your mouth doesn't require hands).

The best actual call on the market is the Knight and Hale. It's the most expensive, but it's darn goodSquirrel hunting help never have done it before?
These guys have both made good points. You may also want to take a call. This one only costs 2 cents. Rub two pennies together so that the little lips on the edge catch each other and make a chewing sound. It replicates the sound of tree rats cutting, and I've had a few come down the tree I was leaning against and come pretty close to jumping on my head. Never said I was a great hunter, but I do enjoy the outdoors. Good luck, and pretty much any recipe that requires a crock pot is awesome!
in Oklahoma ..if you can get permission to hunt a pecan grove you should see a lot of squirrels.

A good .22 rifle... 4 power scope or a shotgun (i like modified chokes) will do the job.

Any hardwood grove will usually harbor squirells too...Nuts and acorns are a prime diet for tree rats.

Be patient... find a spot and sit still...they will hide away on the tree until they think its clear and safe....

about the least ';equipment'; required... of any game hunting out there.
Yeah if you listen to these guys you'll get you some squirrels. Me personally don't care to much for the taste but for each his own.
