Here is what I have found about dog hunting.You will need a dog for squirrel hunting and a dog for rabbit hunting.I have never found a dog that would hunt them both, and be good at both.They will either be good at one or the other. Notice the key word-Good at it.
The beagle will win the rabbit dog question hands down.But almost any breed can be trained to tree squirrels.But there are some breeds that can be trained quicker, and will be better at treeing squirrels then other breeds.My best choice for a squirrel dog would be the Mountain Cur.Takes to treeing squirrels like the beagle takes to running rabbits.They hunt hard and tree even harder.And if you wish, you can take them at night and tree coons with them all night long.If you like to hunt with dogs, I would have both breeds to hunt with.What's the best squirrel and rabbit hunting dog?
