Have you ever gone squirrel hunting?

Its pretty fun, those little suckers move pretty fast.Have you ever gone squirrel hunting?
Yep, it's fun, and teaches you some very valuable hunting skills. If you don't sit still and quiet, those tree rats will make you wonder whether or not there were actually any squirrels there in the first place!Have you ever gone squirrel hunting?
Almost 30 years ago with my Ruger MarkII %26amp; 10/22.
I really enjoy hunting them with a good squirrel dog... It really makes the hunt even more enjoyable.......You can get your limit pretty quick with your dog as a hunting companion.......
When I was about 10 till 14 or so, I had a cousin that lived in the country and had ';squirrel'; dogs.

We would each get our .22s, no scopes but with big padded slings, strap them on tight to our backs and let the dogs run.

We had to keep up, as those dogs loved to run through the forest howling and barking. After a mile or so, they'd settle down some and start sniffing out squirrel. When they found a recent trail, they'd howl again and start barking up trees.

We'd catch up, all hot and breathing hard, and start looking in the pine branches for squirrel. Sure enough, they were there but all twitching and jumping around from the dogs.

Between being out of breath, the tree rats all jumpy, springing from branch to branch and this being Southern pine forest where the branches were 50 feet high or so, it's a wonder we got any at all.

But we were good shots and we didn't give up. Sometimes it took both of us blasting away. I had/have a Winchester 190 and David had a Sears semi auto, maybe a Marlin model.

A good day would produce 5 to 10 of the critters, plus we'd stop to swim and take naps, so we'd get home afternoons. We'd also get the occasional coon, opposum or snakes.

David's mom was Cajun, after we cleaned them, she'd soak them in buttermilk for a while, then pepper the heck out of them and flour and fry those guys up right about dinner time.
yes and yes they do.
yes like to eat them to
Yes. It is one of my favorite animals to hunt. The gray squirrels are a good challange because of their propensity for staying on the move. Fox squirrels give you a better chance of coming home with something in your hunting pouch. But, both are a LOT of fun to hunt and give you an excuse to get out into the woods. Both are pretty darned good on the table.
Yep they are fun to hunt and can be tricky to hunt at times especially when the leaves are still on the trees. They are masters at hiding in forked limbs and on the backside of trees
Yes, in fact, a squirrel was the first animal I ever harvested
Yeah and there tougher than you think they would be
yes but hard to clean!
Yes, i go about every day during season. they do move fast, but not fast enough for my Remington .22!!! I just sit and watch them in the trees and pick em off like that. I walk ym dog sometimes too, but hes pretty wortholess when it coems to squirrels, he cant move as fast and hes not agile enough.
No but, I have some ';pet'; squrirels at work they come everyday and eat from my hand. They are quick!
yea its pretty funny
yes it is a fun sport. they are good eatin with dumplins, or just fried with cream gravy and bisquits.
