Is hunting squirrel normal?

my 13 nephew is allowed to shoot squirrels in the yard and I think this is sick...is hunting this defensive animal normal??Is hunting squirrel normal?
well in dallas there is no season on squrrielsIs hunting squirrel normal?
A lot of people hunt squirrels. They have a season on them. They are great fun to hunt and good to eat as well.
Hey, guess what? It's legal (providing in hunting season), and yes, squirrels can be pests... not to mention that they are tasty.

It's not sick. It's called hunting.

';Sick';, would be killing animals for no reason. If he's doing it for no reason, then yeah, he needs to stop. If he's eating them, or if they are causing damage, then there is nothing wrong with it.
Absolutely, some of us even eat them almost tastes like chicken sorta.
Perfectly normal now as it has been for generations. Stewed squirrel is a common dish in my household, and my boys are tasked with harvesting and preparing them.

That said, I do have them pick out and shoot the grey squirrels and leave the red squirrels alone to reproduce. The greys are overpopulated and displacing the reds native to my area,
Thirteen year old boy? It would be abnormal if he DIDN'T hunt squirrels.

It might help if you thought of them as furry tailed tree rats, which they essentially are.
they are very good when fried like chicken... and make pretty good stew meat.

If the kid is shooting them for the heck of it... and I caught him ... he would be eating those tree rats raw- feet, skin and guts.
Its normal if you like to eat squirrel and dumplings.

And since when is a squirrel ';defensive';?
If it's legal and he's hunting them in season and obeying the hunting laws of your area, then who cares what you think about it! DEAL with it. Hunters HUNT. Do you feel bad for having someone else do your killing for you when you eat meat? That chicken didn't just walk into the slaughterhouse and have a heart attack, someone killed it for you so you could keep your hands clean.
Only if you eat it. If you shoot it for sport........it is sick
If he's eating them and isn't doing sadist a-holish stuff to make them suffer then it's cool. If he is doing the little buggers in just for kicks then it's ( in my opinion only of course ) plain old wrong and he should be counseled by a responsible hunter.
Yes squirrel hunting is normal. Many states have small game seasons that allow the harvesting of squirrels. This is how many young hunters are taught to hunt, and is a great way to share a father son experience.
I dislike the idea of shooting anything unless there is a good reason and shooting just for the hell of it isn't a good reason. In the UK the native red squirrel population has become very small and limited to small areas of the country. It has to compete with the imported American grey squirrel that is stronger and carries a virus which is lethal to the red squirrel. In parts of the UK controlling the grey squirrels is allowed. I say that this is a justifiable reason for shooting squirrels. Doing it for fun is just sad and shows a lack of empathy for other living creatures. I'd be worried about your nephew.
