What do you think about using a ruger 10/22 from wal mart to hunt squirrel?

i admit it. im a novice. never shot a damn thing in my life. my ive been printing squirrel targets, and practicing hitting them every which way. ive been practicing for three years, and my aim is dead on. what do you think about using a ruger 10/22 for my first one? or can you suggest a good cheap .22 caliber bolt action rifle? love bolt actions XDWhat do you think about using a ruger 10/22 from wal mart to hunt squirrel?
three years!? You should be able to knock a flea off a squirrels ear with that experiance....

The 10/22 will do fine, they have a very strong reputaion, I just dont like removable mags. The Marlin 60 is a 15+ tube fed semi auto, and I love the accuracy of mine. It like 20 years old and has literally thousands of rounds through it.

The ruger 77/22 and Marlin 980 are good bolt actions. What do you think about using a ruger 10/22 from wal mart to hunt squirrel?
A Ruger 10/22 is reasonably accurate, light weight, and chambered in a round that has plenty of power for small game animals, so it would work fine for squirrels. As for an inexpensive quality bolt-action, check out the Savage Mk. II.
Haha good thing you're gunna get your first catch. Anyways I think using an auto/semi-auto would be better because you need a quick reload and such. A bolt action feels fun yes I know it XD but you might wana buy a more practical gun as your first for this time period.
I own a Ruger 10/22 and can tell you that it is an excelent rifle. It is also highly customizable if you choose to do so in the future.
it would be fine, but with this caliber you need to be in a very remote location and know what is beyond your target. other wise go for it
Its illegal to hunt with it in Pennsylvania.*
jesus 3 years? your more then ready get a nice used single shot .22 rifle from your local gun shop [50-90 dollars] get your hunting license and go to town.
I think that is a great idea. A shotgun ruins to much meat. Plus with a 22 you become a better shot.
Thats a good gun for it. If you are going to eat the squirrels. But if you just want target practice- shoot paper.
I love bolt actions too, the ruger 10/22 I've found to be a fun plinker (basically pour lead downrange like an MG and just break lots of stuff), but semi autos generally blazes away too much ammo much too fast.

I've got this lovely Voere 66ww single shot .22lr rifle that I found for $90 used at a local gunshop. Its very accurate, lightweight, reliable, simple. great sights, very consistent, but unfortunately I can't put a scope on it.

If you are a bit more adventurous and willing to take on a challenge, buy a used gun and be prepared if you pick a bad one to learn how to fix it. There are many used semiauto, bolt, lever, break or pump .22lr rifles out there for a faction of a cost when it was new. some are very good, others are just mediocre. generally the older American made and German made rifles are the best, Italian, Chinese, soviet a close second place. Its like the lottery, do you feel lucky you'll find a great rifle?

otherwise stick to a current production rifle, like the Marlin 925 or Savage Mark 2 rifles. both bolt action, both very accurate, high quality rifles. (still, I like my Voere 66ww more) The marlin 925 is fairly inexpensive, $150- $180. the Savage is a bit more accurate and higher quality, $190 to $300.

The ruger 10/22 there's nothing wrong with it, free floating barrels are more accurate than the ones wit ha barrel band, you'll just find yourself blazing thru more ammo faster than if you had a single shot .22. also, the 10/22 sights suck. get a scope.
