What pellets are best for hunting squirrel with 1000 fps .177 pellet gun?

I disagree with the previous answers. I've hunted with air rifles for years, and for small game, I recommend Gamo Wad Cutter pellets. They have a flat head (not dome shaped), which creates the largest channel, and transmits the most shock from the pellet to your target. Dome-shaped pellets and pointed pellets leave a smaller wound channel and both transmit less energy. Some feel that the more aerodynamic domes and points are more accurate; this has not been the case in my experience.

At 1000fps, any pellet you can find will go clean through a squirrel no matter which way you hit it. Penetration will not be an issue. If you are concerned whether a .177 pellet will be sufficient to ensure a quick kill on a squirrel (you needn't be), you can try ';shotgunning'; multiple pellets in your rifle. I generally use three, and the spread at 50 feet is about 3/4';. Some pellet guns will not accomodate cramming multiple pellets in the breech, and this will certainly void your warranty, though I have never experienced any damage to any of my air rifles. GAMO RAPTORS! They are exelent! I have a gamo bigcat 1200 that I take hunting all the time ( I have killed groundhogs and coons with that thing) and those are the pellets I use. What pellets are best for hunting squirrel with 1000 fps .177 pellet gun?
i have a 1000fps .177 air rifle to. and i found that the best pellets for me, was the crossman destroyer pellets, beeman silver arrow, eun-jin .177 cal pellets, or the beeman kodiak double gold (or just the normal kodiak pellets). in my opinion, the crosman destroyers are good at shots up to 30-35 yards, any ferther, and you will deffinaly loose accuracy. the pellet is designed to crush bone on contact, and then expand in the target leaving alot of dammage. with a shot right behind the front arms of a squirrel (lung shots) it drops like a stone. the beeman kodiaks have almost the same dammage, but not as much expansion, but they are very heavy which is good. but the kodiaks have accuracy of up to 50-75 yards (so i have heard). then are the silver arrow pellets, and these pellets are awsome. they are so accurate, and have a great ammount of nockdown power behind them. and my personal favorite? the eun-jin .177 caliber vietnamese pellets. these are some heavywight pellets, and unlike most of the other pellets, they have a tight fit in the barrel. these pellets (i have heard) can shoot accuratly for 100 or so yards. they have somthing like 17 foot pounds of energy i heard somewere. and they are great. give these pellets a try, they wont let you down.
Crosman destroyer, Poly-tips, any hollow point pellet does the job for me

The pellet your rifle prefers(accuracy).

';Generally'; speaking, domed lead pellets are the best for small game. While wadcutters are the best for ';pest'; birds.

Unless you chronographed that %26gt;which I highly doubt%26lt; Then that ';1000fps'; is a ';claim'; of up to a maximum of 1000fps, what they don't tell you is that they use an ultra lightweight pellet to even come close to that ';claim';. You're more than likely going to get somewhere around 850fps to 900fps with average weight(8.0gr) pellets

Two of the most popular hunting pellets and ones that are both reasonably priced and perform well in a wide variety of rifles are the Crosman Premier Domed Light(7.9gr) %26amp; the RWS Superdome(8.3gr)

Pellet sampler

';J Kirsch'; is correct, the only way to know for sure which your rifle is most accurate with is to shoot a variety of high quality pellets. This is the best pellet sampler that I'm aware of.

I do think that from the power of your rifle(probably 13-15ft-lbs of muzzle energy), more than likely, one or both of the pellets I recommended above is going to perform very well in your rifle..
None. Squirrels are small game. If your state even allows airgun hunting, it is unlikely you'd be allowed to hunt with a .177 cal. Most state .20 or .22 cal as a minimum, for a good reason, a clean humane kill.
I agree with CF45... Get the pellet that's most accurate in your gun. That will let you place what energy your pellet gun has where it will do the most damage. As for what pellet will be most accurate... That's impossible to say since all pellet gun's shoot pellets a bit differently. I'd recommend starting with a number of sampler packs (which let you test a manufacturer's entire line of pellets) and find the one you consistently get the best accuracy with.
While I would not hunt squirrel with a .177 that is just my personal feeling. If you want the best pellet in that cal for hunting squirrel I suyggets you look at this page of the Pyramyd Air web site and choose the heaviest pellet that has a good customer rating: http://www.pyramydair.com/cgi-bin/show_n鈥?/a>

EDIT: these are pretty heavy and are highly rated by customers: http://www.pyramydair.com/s/p/Crosman_Pr鈥?/a>

The heavier the pellet, the more energy is retained when it hits the target. This greatly improves your chances of a quick and humane kill. Domed shaped pellets are generally more accurate and better all around hunting pellets.
i use pointed but i would also suggest steel tipped pellets
Get a dome shaped pellet some domed say hunting pellets they are the heavy thus they are good for hunting
