Squirrel hunting?

I need tips on squirrel hunting!! I hunt with a air rifle, im only twelve years old and of course im not allowed to go out and shoot a shotgun or 22 by myself. But i need tips, and how to clean squirrels too, beacause i have never ate one in my life. (what do they taste like anyway?)Squirrel hunting?
1. you need to ensure it's squirrel season, which is in the fall.

2. you need a license and an adult to hunt with.

3. you need a hunter safty course.Squirrel hunting?
First go out in the morning or evening, wait allot, and make sure you have a air rifle with more than 400 fps so it will kill them in 1 shot and they won't suffer. And for eating them I'm in no hurry to. so i wouldn't know what they taste like probably taste like chicken!
First you need to make sure your state is open for squirrel now, for there are seasons on all game animals and where I live squirrel season closed January 1 and will not reopen until May 15.

You may need a hunting license in your state also you do need to check, for it is cheaper then the fines if you get caught.

If season is open in your state early in the morning and late of an evening is when they move the most.

You would do much better using camouflage clothing, because you will need to get close to them for a pellet gun to do its job.

Do not hunt in city parks or in town most cities have laws against that, and you don鈥檛 wont the police arresting you.

Squirrel is very good to eat in my opinion.

Look at the links attached to help on hunting, cleaning and cooking.

Good Luck and enjoy

There are many ways to skin a squirrel. The way that I use is ideal for two people, but one person can do it.

With the squirrel's back to you, pinch up the vertical skin around the middle of the back along the spine. Make a horizontal cut across this flap of skin that you've loosened up. Now, put your fingers under the two sides of the cut you've made. Pull the skin apart from your initial cut. Sometimes, the force of pulling will sever the skin under the belly (under where you cut, that is), but other times you will have to cut throught that skin as well.

Once the skin is pulled up to the neck's base, the knees, and the base of the tail, cut the flesh around the neck (you can eat the head as well, but most don't). When you get to the vertabrae in the neck, don't try to cut through them. Using your knife blade as a fulcrum, break the neck on the blade and cut the remaining flesh off. At your preference, either discard the head of save it for eating.

Now, onto the legs. You eat all the legs except for the lower legs below the elbow region. Break the leg bones as you did the spine, and cut the tail off as well (you can carefully pull the fur and skin part of the tail off of the flesh to make a trophy).

Now, make a cut a the start of the ribcage to the anus. Reach inside the cavity, and scoop out the internal organs (I suppose that you could eat the liver, but that's an awfully small piece of meat). Making sure that you have removed all of the turds from the body (don't miss the intestines either), immerse your squirrel in a bowl of water, and refrigerate for a day or two.

Now, onto butchering. This is really simple. Cut the front limbs off (they are not attached to the rest of the body except by flesh, so just cut around the shoulder blade). The ribcage has very little meat on it, so you might just throw it away. Now, cut around the flesh of the femurs on the rear legs, and break the femur as described before. Cut off the flaps of abdominal skin, and break the back at the point where the lower back meets the ribcage. Toss out the ribcage and the abdominal flaps, and keep the limbs, lower back, and, possibly, head.

To cook, battering and frying is the common method, and the only way that I personally know how to do.

This may sound like a ton of work, but my father and I can clean a singular squirrel in under three minutes, and butcher a single one in not much longer. Once you do it a few times, it is easy.

Anyways, on the actual hunting of squirrels, use whatever pellet is the most accurate in your rifle, and practice tons. Make sure your gun is sighted in, and know your pellet's trajectory.

If a squirrel sees you, and goes to the opposite side of the tree from you, have someone walk to the other side of the tree to drive the squirrel back to you. If you are alone, throwing logs and large stick can also achieve this effect, but not as reliably in my experience.

Hone your stalking techniques. Just like shooting, this takes practice.

Good hunting!
squirrels arent innocent 'joe a' they kill birds and some are endangered because of them
well if youve got acreage and its your property theres no reason why you cant use a .22. but i mean if your in suburbia and hunting for squirrels in your backyard that aint such a smart idea lol. take some binoculars. spy around looking for them. if they spot you and run up the tree just get in a good position to shoot and sit and wait for him to move to the branches. hunting with another person and or a dog makes it much easier. the squirrel doesn't know which side of the tree to hide on and basically you have a dead squirrel.
Go early in morning, find walnut trees, stand still and look up. Listen for barking. Use a high powered air rifle, you still might not have enough punch to shoot one high. One squirrel don't make much of a meal, but go several times and they add up. Try hunter education courses offered thru your states DNR. Hard to tell you how to clean one, you have to see it done. They taste like chicken(doesn't everything!) GOOD LUCK!
You need to check your local laws regarding hunting, minors, and air rifles. Squirrels are rodents, and in most places, if on your property, you can do away with them if you want to.
Daniel M gets my vote for best answer. Couldn't have been more thourough.
Sit tight. To bring them out of the trees, take a shotgun shell with you and tap it on your gun stock. 5 minutes, you'll have yourself a squirrel. Works everytime for me.
there's a book you can get at your local library with good pictures on how to do that. Email me and I will get the name of the book for you.
Sit still close to a hickory tree this fall and wait for the squirrel. When the squirrel comes wait until he is still and shoot him in the head. I have killed countless squirrels this way when I was about 8 years old. When you skin it, make a cut on the back and pull the skin off the top part of his body then the bottom part of his body. Then you gut him and your done. Tastes like chicken.
the best thing even you can't use it is a 22 rifle and to eat them first boil the legs sence thats where most of the meat is and then fry them
Umm Killing a squarrell with an air riffle is illegal!!! How do you like juvinille detention homes?? Ask your parents!! Why would you want to kill an inocent animal........run squarrell run!!!!!!!!
