%26gt;%26gt;A ';good'; pellet gun for squirrel hunting%26lt;%26lt;

There are no ';good'; BB gun for small game(rabbit/squirrel/etc) hunting

I highly recommend the RWS Model 34 Panther

At $159 it's slightly more than your price, but IMO this is the ';best value'; air rifle in the world.

$159 on Gunbroker

The Beeman 1000 series has some nice rifles, I prefer the SS1000T.

Benjamin model 397 or 392.

Winchester 1000x by Daisy - The combo, rifle + scope will run you $90 on gunbroker

The Crosman Phantom is a fairly nice rifle.

I'm not a big fan of Gamo but, the Big Cat is in your price range.

Hunting with an airgun

#1 - accuracy

#2 - enough FPE to make a humane kill

Use this site to calculate the FPE of any air rifle you are thinking of buying

IMO you need at least 6fpe at impact with proper shot placement and hunting pellets.

575fps - 8.02gr=6.02fpe

I recommend the .177 over the .22 especially for beginners. The .177 has a higher velocity(in the same rifle) and therefore a much flatter trajectory which makes the .177 an inherently more accurate rifle/pellet combination. You have a very small targer(head) when hunting with an air rifle, you have to accurate(1 to 1 1/2 inches)

The FPE of the .177 is nearly identical to the .22 %26gt;';in the same rifle';

.177

1000fps - 8.2gr=18.21fpe

.22

800fps - 14.5gr=20.61fpe

Read what serious airgunners have to say about hunting small game with air rifles.

Print a copy of these airgun safety rules - LEARN THEM - then sign a copy for your Mom promising to follow every one of them at ALL TIMES

Later: I found a very good deal on Gunbroker last night. Wanted to let you know there is a RWS 34 + RWS 4x32 scope ';combo'; with a wood not synthetic stock, NIB for $149 - Since they normally sell for around $225 that's a very good deal.What is a good bb/pellet gun for squirrel hunting?
Benjamin. They are in your price range too.

If you want to go hunting and your parents are reluctant to let you, then show how responsible you can be. Attend a hunter safety course first and make sure you do very well. Remember a BB or pellet gun than can kill a squirrel can still harm a person if not handled right.
To get a clean kill, you need at least 20 fpe, that means .22 caliber and 800 fps as a minimum. A .177 pellet gun at any velocity isn't going to cut it. It's going to be hard to find anything in your budget.

Why do you feel the need to kill squirrels? Do you have a license to hunt them? Are they for food on your table? Are you just going to shoot them because you are a disturbed individual?
The people above me are both right and gave some very good advice. Also when looking for pellet guns remember to look for the fps(feet per second) thats what really matters. Your going to want something that is high. 650+
