Why is it Illegal to hunt squirrel's with a pellet gun NC?

Why is it illegal to hunt squirrels in NC with a pellet gun? I mean a 1,000 fps .177 cal pellet gun will do just has good has a .22. Any anti-hunting comments will be flagged. Why is it Illegal to hunt squirrel's with a pellet gun NC?
A .177 pellet at 1,000fps is about 1/10th as powerful as a 22lr.

Your air rifle fires a 6gr pellet at 1,000fps and generates around 10 ft-lb of energy max.

A 22lr on the other hand fires a 40gr bullet at 1,080 fps and produces 104 ft-lb of energy.

Just because the velocity is the same.. that doesn't mean the power is the same. That's why hunting with small caliber air guns is not legal in many states. Why is it Illegal to hunt squirrel's with a pellet gun NC?
Do you need the food? If not, why kill them?
Yes, even 700-800fps guns are drop dead before it hits the ground. Go do it anyway, make sure no one sees you or some stupid thing.
Is not it?

I know your wrong.

Maybe in just one or two county's, but the whole state. No way.
