Gray squirrel hunting in England with suppressed 22's?

On the U.S evening news this week they featured a story about reducing the population of American gray squirrels overtaking the natural habitat of the English red squirrel. The hunters were using suppressors on their 22's! Surprised me, in good ole England, they can use silencers for hunting? Or was this a ';special'; hunt? Can anyone fill me in on the rest of the story?Gray squirrel hunting in England with suppressed 22's?
hi, I'm from England, the .22's your referring to are air rifles. the gun laws are so strict here that most hunters use air guns, you can own one up to 12 ft-lb without a license.

silencers are readily available for airguns and you can buy them from any gun shop or even over the Internet.Gray squirrel hunting in England with suppressed 22's?
While Silencers/Suppressors are much frowned on in the US (you can with great difficulty own one here) they are the one firearms item that is easier to get and use in the UK and many countries in Europe than in the US. The population density is higher and noise is a concern.
